Summary of Website

The three common factors leading to heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's etc. are insulin resistance, oxidative stress and inflammation.  To combat these predisposing factors, exercise prolongs life.  The intensity and frequency of aerobic exercise are important; add weightlifting.  Practice CRON, Caloric Restriction Optimal Nutrition.  Do not eat pro-inflammatory omega 6 oils (corn, soybean, safflower etc.); reduce fat, sugar and salt to a minimum.  Optimal nutrition means everything you eat should be loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anticancer agents; do eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, lean meat, whole grains.     Pritikin's low caloric density plan with no sugar and very low fat is good.

Obtain the five anti-aging lab tests to know where your health is:  C reactive protein, advanced lipid testing, homocysteine, fasting insulin and ferritin, also vitamin D level,  arachadonic acid (omega 6)/EPA (omega 3), 24 hour urine for hormones and Dpd/NTx blood or urine osteoporosis tests.  If these are not in the ideal zone then keep working on your lifestyle to improve them.  Take Life Extension Mix capsules or tablets and omega 3 fish  oil.  For anti-aging take alpha lipoic acid, acetyl L carnitine, Coenzyme Q10, resveratrol, curcumin,  carnosine, and pycnogenol.  Choose other supplements depending on your objectives.  See an experienced physician for endocrine optimization and bioidentical hormones.  Keep up with preventive medicine tests with your physician.  Practice meditation and other techniques to avoid negative emotions and keep your cortisol down.  Print out the worksheet and away you go!

Psychology and Keeping Up.

This is all psychological; you must create a new world of "normal" with a healthy lifestyle for which you are emotionally positive.  The more you can learn and be reminded of a healthy lifestyle the better.  There are many good books and websites and these are only a beginning.  Books include Robert Pritikin and Barry Sears (omega3, anti-inflammatory).  Others include Dr. Perricone, Dean Ornish and Colin Campbell to name a few.   Websites include the A4M  (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine) which is very popular with much information. Dr. Lam has an extensive website on alternative medicine.  The Calorie Restriction Society has info and DVD's of their conferences are available.  The Life Extension Foundation has an excellent daily email with the latest studies and practical advice as well as much information on their website.  Juvenon has an excellent monthly letter with archives.  The Pritikin Center  has a weekly email.  Quality Counts is a weekly email with a very good review of the latest week's research studies.

For the basic science of aging the Longevity Meme weekly newsletter is excellent with much information at the website about aging though can be technical.  Ouroboros has aging info and an extensive list of links.  The American Federation of Aging Research has excellent non-technical explanations of aging processes.  Fight Aging and the Methusalah Foundation have basic science info and political/economic/ethical news and opinions about aging.
